Week 6 NFL News And Notes.

October 17, 2010-Tim Tebow scores his first career NFL touchdown today against the New York Jets. The Jets and Broncos are still battling as I type this. The score is 17-17 with 6:10 to go. Ladanian Tomlinson just ran for a TD to tie it up but Kyle Orton and Denver are driving. Will post the final score here in a bit. The Broncos just kicked a field goal to go up 20-17 with 3:55 left in the game. Let's see what Mark Sanchez and the Jets can do in the final minutes.

WOW! Mark Sanchez and the Jest come back to beat the Denver Broncos 24-20 on a late touchdown run by Ladanian Tomlinson. The Jets got a huge interference call in their favor. It was 4th and 6 and the Jets needed a first down or the game was over and the Broncos would win. Sanchez threw a long pass to Santonio Holmes and he couldn't make the catch. There was a reason Holmes couldn't catch the pass because Broncos safety Renaldo Hill totally mugged him and grabbed his face mask. The refs threw the flag and it was pass interference on Hill. Jets running back Ladanian Tomlinson then ran the ball in for a touchdown that put the Jets up to stay at 24-20. You hate to see the game being decided by the refs, but it was a good call and if the ref did not throw that flag the Jets' fans would have probably tracked him down and lynched him..lol!

Rookie QB Sam Bradford and the St. Louis Rams get a big 20-17 win against the San Diego Chargers. The surprising Rams are 3-3 in the wide open NFC west and have already won two more games than they did in all of 2009. Bradford had a very good game with 198 passing yards and one touchdown and no interceptions. Meanwhile the Chargers are struggling at 2-4 in the AFC west.

The Dallas Cowboys lose to the Minnesota Vikings 24-21 and are now 1-4. Who saw this coming at the start of the 2010 NFL season? The Cowboys look lost and have no confidence. Cowboys' fans want Wade Phillips gone but Jerry Jones keeps sticking with his head coach. One bright spot for the Cowboys in this game was Dez Bryant caught his first career NFL touchdown pass. The Cowboys have been bad, but Brett Favre and the Vikings haven't exactly been lighting it up either in 2010. They came into the game with the same 1-3 record as the Cowboys and now sit at only 2-4 themselves. Both of these teams have been major disappointments for their fans so far this season. We shall see if they can turn it around before it's too late.

Week 5 NFL News And Notes.

October 13, 2010- Well, the 2010 NFL season is now in full gear as we enter week 6. There have been many surpises so far in this young season. Raise your hand if you picked the Kansas City Chiefs to be 3-1 at this point. There should be no hands raised (Unless you're a Chiefs fan). I sure didn't see that coming. The Chiefs are a good team and they played the Colts tough last weekend as they got their first loss in 2010.

Another surprise has been the play of Sam Bradford and the St. Louis Rams. Bradford has played better than I thought he would coming out. At the time of this writing, Sam Bradford has thrown for 1,159 yards with 6 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Not great numbers but respectable. Especially for a rookie QB that is trying to turn a franchise around basically by himself. It will be an on-the-job training experience for Bradford. Some weeks he and the Rams will look good, like their 20-3 win over division rival Seattle in Week 4. But then you get the bad. The really bad! They lost to Ndamukong Suh and the Detroit Lions last weekend by the score of 44-6. OUCH! But overall Sam Bradford is going to be a very good quarterback in the NFL in my opinion.

The biggest surprise so far in the 2010 NFL season has to be the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners were a sexy pick coming into the season and they were picked by many NFL "experts" to win the NFC west and go far in the playoffs. However, that has not happened as they are 0-5 and seem to always find ways to lose ball games. they should have beaten the Atlanta Falcons in Atlanta but a fumble after an interception cost them that game. The defender could have just fallen on the ground and they would have won. But he kept running and Roddy White hit the ball out of his hands and Atlanta recovered the fumble. They go on and kick a field goal to beat the Niners. Then last Sunday the 49ers played the Philadelphia Eagles on NBC's Sunday Night Football. They could have and should have won that game too. 49ers quarterback Alex Smith was complete garbage in this game. He looked lost. Mike Singletary was yelling at him on the sidelines and almost replaced Smith with back up QB David Carr. But Singletary stayed with Alex Smith and Smith drove the Niners down the field to score a TD. But it was too little too late. Alex Smith could be heading towards being the biggest number one pick bust in NFL history. He is in his 6th season and he still looks awful. 49ers fans every where cry when they think that they could have taken Aaron Rodgers in the long ago draft of 2005. You pick the wrong QB and it can set your franchise back for years. That appears to be what has happened to the San Francisco 49ers.

A few other teams that have underacheived so far are the Vikings and Cowboys. They are both 1-3 and they will be going head to head next sunday. Minnesota made a big move last week when they brought back former Vikings receiver Randy Moss. Moss and the Vikings played the New York Jets last monday night and lost 29-20. Brett Favre threw a crushing interception late in the game to help hand the Jets the win. There was a shining moment in this game as Brett Favre threw his 500th career touchdown. And it was to Randy Moss. I think the Vikings did the smart thing by picking up Moss as he should help them going forward. Sydney Rice was a HUGE loss for Favre and the Vikings as he is still injured.

The Cowboys lost a tough game to the Titans last sunday 34-27. Rookie Dez Bryant hasn't taken off yet. I don't know if it is because Bryant was injured during training camp or what, but he will be a good receiver I believe.

The World Champion New Orleans Saints are sitting at 3-2 and their offense is not doing as well as it did in 2009. Could be because Reggie Bush is out. Bush broke his leg against the 49ers a few weeks back.

The New York Jets are sitting at 4-1 after week 5 and are leading the AFC East division. Second year quarterback Mark Sanchez looks like he is finally growing up and turning into a solid NFL QB. The biggest thing that Sanchez is doing right now is he is not making dumb mistakes. If the receiver is open he'll thow it to him. If he is not open, he is now throwing the ball away. Through 5 games, Mark Sanchez has 902 passing yards with 8 touchdowns and NO interceptions. Impressive!

The Cincinnati Bengals went out and got Terrell Owens in the off season and Chad "OCHOCINCO" Johnson said at the time "You will see things done on the football field that you have never seen before!" Well, we are still waiting. The Bengals have done nothing and they sit at 2-3 after week 5 and quarterback Carson Palmer has been terrible. He threw one of the most boenheaded interceptions that you will ever see in last weekends 24-21 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So far the Bengals get a great big "F" in 2010.

As for the 2010 rookies go, there is a site that ranks how well they are doing and gives them a rank. The site is called BeastorBust.com and I always check it out after each week of the season. Right now they have Dez Bryant ranked #1 followed by Ryan Mathews at #2, Demaryius Thomas at #3 and Sam Bradford at #4. You can see the complete ranking list by clicking here.

Well, I'm signing off for now. Enjoy the games in week 6 and I'll post more news and notes next week.

August 5, 2010-The 2010 NFL football season starts in about a month from now. That means that football rookie cards will start to heat up again. With the 2010 NFL draft now in the books, we now know where all of the top rookie will be playing and we will know what uniforms they will be wearing in their rookie card photos.

Sam Bradford went to the St. Louis Rams with the #1 pick and his rookie cards should sell well. Bradford will be starting at QB for the Rams right off the bat, so he will see a lot of playing time. I'm sure he will struggle as most NFL rookie quarterbacks do, butat least he will get the experience. Kind of the same situation that the Detroit Lions' quarterback Matthew Stafford went through in his rookie season in 2009.

The #2 pick in the 2010 NFL went to the Detroit Lions. They picked Ndamukong Suh out of Nebraska. Defensive players don't usually get a lot of hype, but Suh is getting plenty of it because he is a beast that will be murder on opposing NFL quarterbacks. Suh is 6'4" and weighs in at 307 pounds. Offensive takles will have a hard time keeping Suh from getting to their QB. Suh rookie cards are already hot items on eBay.

The Buffalo Bills might have got a steal with their #9 pick in draft. They choose running back C.J. Spiller out of Clemson. Spiller has a lot of speed and quickness and could a tough guy to tackle for opposing defenses. C. J. Spiller rookie cards will do well simply because he is a running back with great potential.

The San Francisco 49ers had the 17th pick in the 2010 NFL draft and they choose Mike Iupati out of Idaho. I got a chance to see a lot of the WAC conference last year and Iupati was a stud for the Vandals. And I think he can carry that on to the NFL. Why do I say that? Because this kid has an NFL body and will be a huge load for opposing defenses. He is a massive 6'5" and weighs in at 331 pounds. All I can say to the opposing defensive guy across the line from Iupati is "Good luck getting to 49ers' quarterback Alex Smith". Pick up a few of Mike Iupati rookie cards because they could be sleepers.

The Denver Broncos made a trade with the Baltimore Ravens to move up in the Draft. They ended up taking Tim Tebow with the 25th pick in the 2010 NFL draft. Tim Tebow comes into the NFL as a well known player already. Tebow got a lot of headlines when he was the quarterback at Florida state. A highly successful college QB, it still remains to be seen jst how good Tebow will be in the NFL. Many teams passed on Tebow and we will soon see if that was a nistake or not. Tim Tebow early rookie cards are hot and selling well on eBay.
